New Procedures for TN and E Visas at Matamoros Effective September 10, 2008

New Procedures for TN and E Visas at Matamoros Effective September 10, 2008

Cite as "AILA InfoNet Doc. No. 08092264 (posted Sep. 22, 2008)"

Below is an e-mail from the U.S. Consulate General, Matamoros, Non-Immigrant Visa Section Visa Clerk, regarding the new procedures in effect for obtaining TN and E Visas, beginning October 10, 2008:

Thank you for your interest in obtaining a TN or E visa to work in the United States. The Consulate General's procedures for processing applications from prospective TN and E visa applicants will change effective September 10, 2008. After September 10, 2008, all applicants must apply for an appointment online or by telephone (website and telephone provided below). Also, the Consulate will no longer accept any case-related documentation prior to the interview with the consular officer.

At the interview, applicants should be prepared to submit ONLY the documentation necessary to establish compliance with ALL of the applicable U.S. laws and regulations. Do not submit excess or unclear documentation (e.g. unverified and unaudited financial statements or cash deposit slips that do not show the origin of the E2 funds, etc) as such documents may delay adjudication of your application. Examples of documentation that can be submitted in support of an E visa application can be found on our consular website.

You can make an appointment by telephone by calling: 01-900-849-49-49 from Mexico; or 1-900-476-1212 from the U.S. To pay by credit card over the phone dial 01-477-788-70-70 from Mexico; or 1800-919-1754 from the U.S.

Applicants and all dependents should arrive on time for the interview with all of the required applications forms completed (DS-156, DS-157 if necessary, DS-156E if necessary). All Applicants must present a valid passport and a receipt for the $131 US visa fee payable at any Banamex bank branch. If a visa is issued to a Mexican visa applicant he or she must pay a reciprocity fee of $100 for each visa for each year in both the TN and E visa classifications.
